To solve this problem, TUMI's engineering team designed an automated mechanical clamping system specifically for coupling and uncoupling Raise Boring pipes. This is a concrete example of how mining innovation can directly improve working conditions for personnel.

How does it work?
The system uses a set of mechanical clamps that grip and release drill pipes via a control panel operated from the control console. The operator activates the coupling or uncoupling sequence without physically intervening on the pipe: the clamps close, secure the pipe with the required pressure, and release it once the cycle is complete.
Since it is integrated directly into the Raise Boring rig, the system requires no external accessories or additional preparation steps, allowing for its integration without modifying existing operations or extending setup times.
